Bob Kempf
VP, Product - Boston.com

Bob Kempf was named Vice President, Product for Boston.com in 2006. In this role, Mr. Kempf leads product development and product management initiatives for Boston.com, a leading regional web portal and the digital home of the Boston Globe. Previously he served as VP of Interactive Media for GateHouse Media New England where he developed and implemented a community web strategy that premiered in 2006 as for the WickedLocal.com, a network of hyper-local community sites and search platform.

Mr. Kempf has been developing and implementing Internet strategies for newspaper companies since 1999. Before joining Gatehouse he was Director of Internet Product Development for Ottaway Newspapers, Inc, a subsidiary of Dow Jones. In this role, he was responsible for leading implementation of the company’s digital strategy across 14 member newspaper web sites. He joined the Cape Cod Times in December 1999 as Internet Sales Manager and in 2000 became Internet Business Development Manager - responsible for overall management of CapeCodOnline.com along with the company’s web development services.

Prior to joining the newspaper industry, Mr. Kempf was an independent Internet business development consultant. He also taught at Emerson College and Massachusetts Communications College. Bob first became involved with e-commerce and website development in 1995 while implementing alternative distribution strategies for his record label, Ocean Music Company. In this context he opened one of the first online stores in what later became the Yahoo Store platform. Mr. Kempf also has an extensive background in book publishing, having been Sales, Marketing and National Accounts Manager at Houghton Mifflin Company in Boston. He is a graduate of Boston College where he received a degree in political science and philosophy.
