Despite the stalling economy and shrinking budgets, successful companies need to make sure their employees are still learning. Only by continuous learning can employees keep their skills up to date and better prepare for market changes and the evolving needs of their organization.

So much of what we see in the marketplace today is unprecedented, and that requires making constant adjustments. Learning, then, becomes more important than ever, requiring companies to put in place survival guides that by keeping the skills and knowledge of employees up to date, ultimately will contribute to the companies’ very survival.

But in devising learning strategies for their workforces, organizations have to contend with tightening budgets and geographically dispersed workforces. It simply isn’t cost-effective to fly employees to a classroom and put them up in hotels, especially during the current economic downturn. And that means organizations have to find flexible, cost-effective ways to ensure a continued investment in relevant knowledge acquisition for their employees.

More organizations are finding that computer-based training delivered over the Internet is just as effective as in-person training. Learners take advantage of Web 2.0 tools such as video and audio, instant messaging, blogs, wikis, podcasts and social networking Web sites. In many cases, the argument can be made that learning over the Internet is more effective because of the built-in flexibility it affords learners to study materials at their own individual pace.

Join Training magazine for an interactive Web Seminar, sponsored by Vantage Partners, and hear industry experts discuss learning survival strategies. Attend this online-only event and learn how to use relevant learning as a strategy to get through the economic hard times.
